WATER for the WORLD 開源助生機

Sunshine Action is drilling small water wells in the poor villages around the World.

Each water well is shared by 3-5 poor families, estimate to benefit from 15-30 people directly, plus irrigation and other uses.

2011 target : 50 water-wells

耀陽行動 正在全球多個貧困村落開發建造小型水井。

每口井可供水給 3–5個貧困家庭,估計能令 15-30人直接受益,並可作灌溉及其他用途。

  • Provide water for washing  供水予洗濯之用

  • Provide water for irrigation  供水予灌溉之用

  • Provide clean water for human & animal usage 為人畜提供清潔食水

Of all the water on Earth, only a small amount is available for us to use:

97.2% of the Earth's water supply is salt water.
Only
2.8% is fresh water!

Of the total supply of water on Earth:

  • 0.6% is groundwater

  • 0.01% is in lakes and streams

  • 2.2% is in glaciers and icecaps

  • 0.001% is water vapor

HOW MUCH WATER DOES IT TAKE TO

·       Brush your teeth? - 1.5 to 3 gallons

·    Flush the toilet? - 2 to 4 gallons (each flush)

·    Take a shower or bath? - 18 to 26 gallons

·    Use the dishwasher? - 8 to 15 gallons

·    Wash the car? – 50-80 gallons

Indoors, most of the water a family uses is in the bathroom.

Saving water is important. In the bathroom, the easiest way to save water are

1)  Shut off the faucet while you brush your teeth or take shorter showers.

2) Do not using the toilet to flush trash.

3) Installing low-flush toilets and low-flow showerheads can help save lots of water.

4) An ultra-low-flush toilet uses just 1.5 gallons per flush compared to 4 gallons per flush for a traditional toilet.

A water well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, boring or drilling to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn by an electric submersible pump, a vertical turbine pump, a hand-pump or a mechanical pump (e.g. from a water-pumping windmill). It can also be drawn up using containers, such as buckets, that are raised mechanically or by hand.

In the water world, water is commonly measured in acre feet. But what is an acre foot? One acre foot of water can fill one acre of land, approximately the size of a football field, 1 foot deep. An acre-foot contains 325,900 gallons of water, and can supply the annual indoor and outdoor needs of one to two urban households.
